Synopsis:
The use of professional fluoride products, such as varnishes, gels, and foams, is a primary method for caries control that does not depend on patient compliance. The anticaries effect of these products is often assumed without fully considering the complex interplay between product formulation, clinical use, and mechanism of action.
In this presentation, the science behind professional fluoride products will be reviewed and discussed in light of the most up-to-date evidence of their effect on caries control.
